The Myakka River is one of the most important bodies of water in Southwest Florida; it starts at the northern section of Manatee County and continues to flow all the way south to Charlotte County. This is one of various rivers that feeds the Everglades, and it a large section is protected by the Myakka River State Park in Sarasota County, one of the most pristine in the Sunshine State. While there are many neighborhoods that surround this park, only Myakka River Trails in Venice can boast of being located right on the riverbank and almost inside the park.
Development of Myakka River Trails dates back to the year 2000. Local home builders platted an area of land north of the Tamiami Trail, just between the Plantation district of Venice and Warm Mineral Springs, for 60 homes to be developed in accordance to Florida green building codes and with close adherence to nature preservation efforts. Only a few lots are available for new construction; one was listed in August 2020 for $375K.
Even though 60 homes may not sound like a large community, it should be noted that lots here are at least five acres; in fact, the aforementioned lot listing measures more than 14 acres. Some homeowners have built raised wooden decks over the wetlands and mangroves to reach their private docking space on the banks of the Myakka River. A few homes feature their own fishing piers or picnic spots along the river.
The custom-built homes in this neighborhood are large country estates with at least four bedrooms and 4,000 square feet. As you can expect with this kind of secluded location, the real estate tends to be on the spectacular end, which is why a few properties are closer to a million dollars. The lush landscaping surrounding all properties is pure Florida nature; the developers made sure that only native species were planted.
Myakka River Trails will certainly appeal to nature lovers who enjoy hiking, fishing, and boating. You can visit not only the Myakka State Park but also nearby preserves such as Deer Prairie Creek. Even the Florida Everglades are about an hour and a half away. Driving to Venice Beach will take you less than 25 minutes, and the beach at Nokomis is even closer. Shopping at Publix is only a fee minutes away on the Tamiami Trail.
